Turned off by the high prices and bland tastes when trying to eat healthier on campus? Here are 7 specially curated healthier meals (500 calories and below) that will fulfill your New Year's resolution of a healthier U - while on a budget.

1. Nasi Padang

Indonesian-style Nasi Padang is many Singaporeans’ go-to option when looking for variety in their meals. The Nasi Padang at Koufu serves up delectable dishes from beef rendang to fried chicken and a range of vegetables that are sure to satisfy any and all of your cravings.

2. Fried Ginger Spring Onion Sliced Fish Rice

Lesser known than its more famous cousin “Sliced Fish Soup”, this Chinese dish will make you feel right at home with its fresh slices of fish and fragrant spring onion ginger sauce. The perfect meal for anyone who’s missing Mum’s cooking while at school.

3. Thai Style Fried Vermicelli

The fragrance of the wok-hei was strong in this one. The strands of vermicelli are light, delicately coated with sauce that has hints of soy and lime. If you’re famished and looking for a hearty meal that won’t leave you feeling too stuffed and vulnerable to a post-lunch food coma, this is surely the dish to have.

4. Basil Leaves Minced Chicken With Rice & Egg

Looking forward to that recess week getaway but unfortunately stuck in Singapore with your assignments and tests? No worries, a bite of Thai Claypot’s Basil Leaves Minced Chicken will instantly transport you to the streets of Bangkok with its authentic minced chicken, fried sunny-side up egg and rice.

5. Fish Porridge

We were initially skeptical when we tried this dish but after having it, we all wished we had another stomach so we could have another bowl or two! The broth was so deeply flavourful and it came with a generous portion of sliced fish. Who says fish porridge is only for the sick?

6. Unagi Don

While there are numerous Japanese options around the CBD area, the Japanese store at Koufu serves a comparable Unagi don at a much cheaper rate! You don't have to break the bank for good Japanese food right in the heart of SMU.

7. Chicken Ham & Mushroom Pizza

Wait... this can’t be right... Pizza is a healthier meal?! Yes, we kid you not. When we tried the Chicken Ham and Mushroom Pizza, we loved the firm, crackling crust. Tangy tomato sauce lay under the generous chunks of chicken ham and mushrooms, and the cheese... Oh the amazing cheese - you won’t want to get us started. This pizza was the perfect balance of indulgence and moderation, and is a great option if you're looking for a switch from your usual rice and noodles.

To top it all off, there is a student deal for this pizza - flash your SMU student card and like PastaMania’s Facebook page to get the pizza for only $5.90 (u.p. $9.90). It comes with a free soft drink of your choice too!
